Max Schreck was a German actor who is best known for his role as the vampire Count Orlok in the 1922 silent film "Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror". He was born on September 6, 1879 in Berlin, Germany and began his acting career on stage in the early 1900s.
Schreck's portrayal of the vampire in "Nosferatu" was characterized by his eerie appearance with protruding ears, long fingernails and sharp teeth. He never achieved much fame beyond this role, as he mostly acted in small theaters and in German silent films.
After World War I, Schreck became affiliated with the Berlin-based theater company, "Theater der Expressionisten", where he acted in experimental plays. In the 1920s, he acted in several films, including "The Golem" (1920), "The Street" (1923) and "Faust" (1926).
Schreck died on February 20, 1936 in Munich, Germany, at the age of 56. Despite not achieving much fame during his lifetime, his iconic portrayal of the vampire in "Nosferatu" has continued to inspire filmmakers and horror enthusiasts for decades.
